Went to PC years ago after my horrible experiences with the Xbox ; so I bought this version. Initially had problems with FPS drops, screen tearing, and input lag but managed to fix it.
Runs fast and smooth now, except for one huge flaw If you don't enjoy getting kicked out of a game you legally paid for. Windows Live is ransomware, pure and simple. But if you have a Halo itch that you need to scratch then this is a good buy. Halo 2 was a ground-breaking game for its time. Mainly for the multiplayer over Xbox Live but even the graphics were top of the line on consoles at back then. It was an obsession for many a gamer, myself included.
I would skip my last class of the day frequently just so I could get a couple games in before I went to work. Don't ask me how I passed that class. Multiplayer is still very much alive and well thanks to a plethora of dedicated servers from other gamers.
Nostalgia aside, it's been wonderful playing at a buttery smooth 60fps. With some tweaking on my graphic card's control panel, I got a nice bit of improvement on graphics too. It's nothing major, I mean the game is over a decade old so you can't expect much in the way of graphical improvement.
It's enough to notice a difference though, which is nice. Just don't expect to find any mods to change that. Halo 2 is not modder friendly, but that's not such a bad thing. Definitely 5 stars thanks to the dedicated servers keeping multiplayer alive still in , the real bread and butter of Halo 2.
One person found this helpful. Halo-2 continues the tradition You will need a certain amount of skill to get to the end of the plot. If you have have exhausted Halo-1 then you have probably become attuned watching the plot unfold as much as being constantly planning changes in tactics changes as alien goons pop out in different combinations. This new version has added the next level of finesse to the two major qualities that make this game fun.
And unlike your favorite sci-fi movie, if you started at a medium difficulty, you can look forward to viewing the story again with even more monsters and creepers. It is sort of liking moving up through a movie with successive layers of directors cuts, a little different each time. This is a conversion of program. You will not see the latest and greatest graphics an slick technologies.
You will have to wait for the next two versions to be ported. This game was ported my a limited team from Microsoft but they kept the look and feel of the original XBox version of the game that made it one of the most successful games in history when it was released in This game has action and excitement that made it one of the most successful shoot-em ups of its age.
However, it has only one plot. After you have played it often enough, you will be hungry for something else. You can get else I was a little skeptical buying this since there are quite a bit of negative reviews, but being a big halo 2 fan I went ahead and bought it. It arrived in 3 days and installed very easily. It does work on Windows 7 even though it says Vista. There are some people who were having trouble with the windows live feature; I didn't however.
I have the windows live from getting grand theft auto 4 off Steam. When you do log in to an Xbox account there is a brief update. After that everything worked flawlessly. The video looks much better then playing it on the original and the The campaign is great and the online is even better.
If you are logged into a Xbox account, you can get achievements just like you would on a game. There are lots of servers with bad ping and lag, but if you manage to find one with good ping, the game is very playable and enjoyable. It also comes with 2 extra maps only available for the PC version. Since Halo is managed by Industries now they plan to shut down the online access and play for Halo 2.
This was to happen in February of , but they extended it to June while they investigate further options for it. Hopefully they will find an alternative and keep the servers up and running.
Whether they shut down the online play or not, having this on the PC is incredibly fun and great for those who enjoyed Halo 2 on the Xbox. This brought back years of wanting to desperately play Halo 2 after personally switching to Playstation.
I got a PC, and was fortunately able to run this. I have some minor issues with controls, especially when trying to do multiple things at once I'll get stuck moving forward, or I won't crouch.
There are also some other minor differences between PC and Xbox, but they aren't exactly dealbreakers. For those trying to play this on Windows Use your Troubleshooting settings on the shortcut or your local drive C:. Windows tryed to add some stupid online community or whatever to it that just makes the first runs of the game a total mess i had to switch my keyboard language for it to play properly and the online isn't supported anymore to a lot of achievement aren't obtainable. I suggest downloading the H2online. It turns off all the stupid Windows added mess and provides some servers for you to play onto.

The original Halo was fun to play with a good friend This item arrived in mint condition and weeks ahead of its estimated arrival. I'll just have to soldier on until I figure the controls out. The graphics are excellent. I would have given it 5 stars but it's a checkpoint game: you can't save whenever you want.
Don't activate the game during installation as it prompts you to. At least that's what I'm assuming my issue is from what I can find on various forums. Apparently activating in the game voids the key so it can't be used in Games for Windows Live, which is mandatory for online and achievements. Hopefully there's a resolution. Say's I'm already running it and there's a conflict Pure bullcrap that Windows can't perfect compatibility.
It's almost unfair saying that, "I hate it," on the star system - I don't even know if I hate it And it makes no sense returning it, the shipping would be as much as the game It's a great game, but then it says "Optimized for Vista". Vista, easily the worst OS in the history of PC gaming. The game it-self is so awesome.
